Sherman Staff brought his family to Innerarity in 1850 from Birmingham, where he’d made a fortune in the pig iron industry. He purchased Innerarity Point from the government and built his home there, which remains to this day as the Bread and Breakfast by the park.
His son inherited the island after Sherman died, and his son after him, who promptly began selling it off in bits. In the seventies several lots on the north side of the island were sold, and houses built, and then a trailer park went in. During the nineties, Gahn Gettysburg began buying up bits of the key, beginning with the lot where he built Blue Latitudes. From there he purchased the trailer park and one of the nicer houses where he set up residence for himself.
Innerarity Island was given to John Innerarity, Jr in 1815 by the Governments of his day. After his death in 1854, his children later sold the Island. John Innerarity, Jr was born in Brechin, Scotland and came to America in 1802 to work for his Maternal Uncle William Panton and his famous historical Trading Firm of Panton, Leslie and Company and it’s successor Firm, John Forbes and Company after the death of his Uncle. John Innerarity, Jr was educated in London as an Attorney and was later made Alderman of Pensacola, FL by Andrew Jackson and was Vice Consul to France. He spoke nine different languages, one being of Indian dialect. A Historical Plaque can be found at John Innerarity’s gravesite today which mentions his being given this land in 1815.
@Noemie: Yeah, I’m versed in the actual history of the place. This is a work of fiction. Please refer to the site disclaimer: http://innerarity.wordpress.com/site-disclaimer/
